" I’m also very enthusiastic and experienced in guiding younger students by helping them work for their goals persistently. I have close contact with about thirty younger students in high school and have given them detailed academic advice since graduation last year. Specifically, I have arranged for several personal meetings online, and informed them of great practice opportunities related to their hobbies or studies through varied information channels. I also worked as an online English tutor for several students, helping them prepare for Gaokao. This kind of help has not been my burden. Instead, I am fond of doing so. Seen from this experience, being a peer mentor will serve as a delightful process for me to get along with these rising stars of our school. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: De-stigmatization of Mental Illness
Our project aims to help mental patients to remove stigma, stereotypes and reduce inequality they face in daily life. We mainly advance the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG Goal 10.2: Promoting Universal Social, Economic and Political Inclusion by creating spaces to engage in mental health conversations through art. We will use the form of mental illness art exhibitions to show the inner world of mental patients, to help people know about mental patients. The art exhibition is divided into two parts, namely, the portrait of deceased celebrities with mental illness and the works of deceased celebrities with mental illness. We aim to let students understand the prevalence of mental illness and the inner world of patients in the past and present. The exhibition will be synchronously carried out in many university campuses, university-enterprise cooperation training bases, and commercial centers near universities. We will use QR codes generated from Qualtrics to count the number of participants and provide explanations of the exhibits.
About the Millennium Fellow
Firstly, I’m familiar with various campus resources in aspects including academics, social network, and student affairs, which can help freshman develop their academic blueprints as well as self-growth. When first entering school, due to the confusion about my major, I chose my courses by delving into the major section of the bulletin and making excel lists to speculate my future course plan. Additionally, I used academic resources to improve my skills by actively attending study groups and resorting to the academic resource center by email. During these processes, I gained close relationships with many professors, senior students, and peers, who had broad horizons in specific areas. Accordingly, they became whom I could rely on to learn knowledge from. In addition to academics, I also utilized campus services to make myself more comprehensively developed. For instance, I had used the service of CAPS to manage my stress during the exam week. I tried almost every coach in WLS to improve my writing skills. Based on these merits, I consider myself an eager person and a bold thinker.
