" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow to take a stronger leadership stance in the causes I am passionate about. Our children are our future of humanity, kindness, and prosperity, and thus, it is crucial we provide them with the proper resources no matter what background they come from. As a member of the Millennium Fellowship, I hope to help as many children flourish as possible by informing communities about the importance of mental health and doing policy reviews of the current healthcare injustices in my state. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Creating Accessible Mental Health Care in North Carolina through School-based Interventions

For this project, we are conducting rapid literature reviews to understand the current barriers to accessing mental health services faced by Latinx communities. To get further insight, we will also be conducting interviews with Latinx community members and Primary Care Providers to address the current barriers and facilitators of high quality, culturally competent patient-doctor interactions.
We are also developing a school-based program that connects Spanish-speaking parents of children at risk of a behavioral disorder with a parent navigator to help guide them through the healthcare system. Along with that, we are working with a high school in Vance County to set up parent nights that can inform about this new program. Lastly, we are developing a social media strategy for NC-Pal, an organization that provides mental health expertise to PCPs, to increase their user base
