Millennium Fellowship Project: EcoSave
The ocean, which makes up 72% of the surface of the globe and is home to a wide variety of marine life, is the planet's life force. At least half of the oxygen we breathe comes from it, and it is essential for regulating our climate. They also contribute significantly to the global economy, which includes sectors like tourism, international shipping, and fisheries.
The ocean is currently dealing with several problems, one of which is plastic pollution. More than five trillion pieces of plastic waste are present in the water. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is also growing. To cut down on plastic pollution, immediate action is needed. We can all help by avoiding single-use plastics like straws, cutlery, and food containers. EcoSave thus focuses on SDG-14 (Life Below Water). This project aims to safeguard marine and coastal habitats from pollution and maintain them sustainably. We want to raise awareness among people about ways to keep our water bodies safe and clean in order to preserve biodiversity in Costa Rica, a country with many water bodies and a wealth of species.
