" As an individual who is dedicated and excited to bring about positive change within my community, I am beyond excited and honored to have the opportunity to take my advocacy work to the next level. As a Millennium Fellow, I look forward to networking and building connections with other advocates and organizations, within my community, that are also dedicated in creating a positive change. With the skills that I will gain from the Millennium Fellowship, I do plan to continue my advocacy work after graduation as a marine biologist, educator, conservationist, and a leader! "

Millennium Fellowship Project: ¡Bienvenidos A La Familia!

The project will focus on spreading awareness of LGBT+ youth and young adult homelessness at Florida International University by using various sources that are currently available within Miami-Dade. Our first focus is creating a webpage that had a variety of sources readily available for individuals who may need the resources and to decrease the time to research for opportunities.

About the Millennium Fellow

Alejandro Quintana Garsia is a first-generation, Mexican American college student studying Marine Biology at Florida International University. With his degree, Alejandro hopes to research more into the connection between human rights and the ocean and advocate that a clean, sustainable, and healthy environment is a human right and should be considered as such. In addition to his devotion within the marine science field, he also has a deep passion for social and political advocacy to ensure the safety, health, and equity anyone who identifies within the LGBTQIA+ community, strives to defend the legal and human rights of migrant and farm workers, addressing homelessness within Miami-Dade, and building educational opportunities for immigrant children and their families in Immokalee.
