Florida International University | Florida, United States | Advancing SDG 4 & UNAI 5
" Actionable change is only possible in this world when tenacious people take a chance on themselves for the sake of others. As a hispanic, first-generation college student, it is important for me to ensure through my Millennium Fellowship Project that high school students in the Miami-Dade area can prosper with ease as they seek academic futures and dreams worth taking a chance on. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: $30.5 Trillion in the 305
"$30.5 Trillion in the 305" is a project that aims to educate the FIU and greater Miami community on the crippling nature of the United States' national debt. Through community outreach, social media promotion, and university-group collaborations, students will learn about fiscal responsibility and the current financial climate from a culturally-sensitive and approachable perspective. Additionally, they will learn about the role of civic engagement and sustainability in addressing the economy at the personal, state, and federal level. This will supplement the lack of access to financial education at the collegiate level, strengthening higher education as a whole at FIU. Some goals I hope to accomplish by December of 2022 include hosting one Day of Action at the FIU MMC campus, presenting the topic to at least 10 classes at the FIU MMC campus, posting on social media relevantly at least 30 times during the course of the project, reaching out to at least 10 members of government regarding the topic, and publishing at least 2 pieces of written content regarding the topic.
