Millennium Fellowship doesn't only give that opportunity but makes young people discover themselves. Creativity and adaptivity are what Millennium Fellowship bread in young people's hearts, that is why I grab the opportunity to display what I got. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Mental Health Awareness

Depression is one of the leading causes of disability while suicide is the second leading
cause of death among 15-29-year-olds. People with severe mental health conditions die prematurely – as much as two
decades early – due to preventable physical conditions.


The project made people aware and recognise that our psychological
well-being is an important part of our health, happiness, and productivity.
An outreach was held in two different secondary schools to increase understanding of mental health, reduce stigma and curb the high rate of depression and suicide among secondary school students.

About the Millennium Fellow

Samson Onileowo is an English and literary studies student at Federal University Oye, in Ekiti state in Nigeria. Samson is focused on how individuals could be financially independent irrespective of their chosen course and also be relevant educationally, due to the common saying in most Nigerian schools that "education na scam" which means sacrificing your time to go to school is just a mere wasting of time. This passion enable him to create a reading atmosphere where students could meet to read together and learn more. He aspires to bring people to an understanding of self-independence in all realms. After he graduates, he aspires to continue his studies abroad in a course distinct from his degree, especially practically, so many individuals will benefit from how to combine education with self-understanding practical work.
