" I am super excited to be a Millennium Fellow. Being part of Millennium Fellowship will provide the guidance and mentorship required to execute and preserve my community project. In addition, the Millennium Fellowship will also enable collaboration and networking with other like-minded individuals. Furthermore, the training and core ethics of Millennium Fellowship will become the sustainable blueprint behind each social project. Its Influence will be long-lasting. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: The Grooming Hub
My project is focused on building a community of young students that fosters career development and personal wellbeing. Students will have the opportunity to learn from seasoned seniors about relevant career and lifestyle topics. They will be able to access courses tailored to their interests and participate in practical group projects that demonstrate their learnings. In addition to preparing highly motivated students for career success, the project should develop supporting, long-term communities.
Secondary schools and university students would equally benefit from the project and the communities. The first phase will be focused on attracting and building a central community of university students. A university-wide campaign will be organized in the select universities that attract students in need and motivated students.
The first few weeks will focus on developing strong foundational skills and behaviors among the participants, along with familiarizing them with each other. Afterwards, each participant will join a specific cluster based on his interest and career aspirations. Management and finance, social studies, fine arts, performance art, medicine, legal, entrepreneurship, engineering and technology, as well as the pure sciences are some of the broad career paths covered by clusters. The clustering phase will involve specialized trainings by industry professionals, career talks with recruiters and academic classes by lecturers. Participants will also have access to shared repositories of courses, books and other resources.
This phase will culminate in two group projects. First, each group within each cluster will demonstrate its choice of skills and learnings in a practical demonstration. As part of the second project, students will be involved in secondary school outreach that will inspire young seniors and build a pipeline between secondary school students and the community. This shared camaraderie within clusters and the mentor-prodigy model between university students and secondary school seniors will become the hallmarks of the community's continued operations after the project is over. This community's overall goal is to produce innovative, impactful professionals and a learning academy for young students and children, especially those in need.
The project is expected to involve Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and can be expanded to other universities including University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). My team will define the collective operating model used in every university. Since I am a student of FUTA, I will lead operations and the team at FUTA, and I will delegate operations to effective student leaders at other universities.
