Millennium Fellowship Project: Detection of Neutralizing Antibodies against SARS-CoV-2
I am planning to work on the detection of neutralizing antibodies against variants of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in susceptible animal species, especially in pets such as cats, dogs, hamsters etc., using a neutralization assay and the probable transmission of the virus from animal to animal. The aim is to understand how neutralizing antibodies prevent SARS-CoV-2 from infecting host cells by investigating the ability of neutralizing antibodies to inactivate the virus by blocking its spike protein attachment site on the host cell receptor. Therefore, I believe this research project will enable me to assess the level of protective immunity in susceptible animals, as well as monitor the efficacy and effectiveness of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.
