" I want to be a Millennium Fellow to set an example for the people in my community- of what good leadership is and what impacts it can have on society. I am very excited to work as a Millennium Fellow because it provides me with an opportunity to connect with other young leaders globally and learn a lot from them.
I was connected to animal activism and environmental conservation since childhood. Being raised with utmost sensitivity by my parent, I grew up being immensely connected to every living creature on this planet. I am passionate about saving my environment and working toward the sustainability of the planet Earth. I don't have any external driving factors. I do what I do because my inner conscience drives me in this direction. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: A Better World For Animals

The main purpose of my project is to sensitise people about treating stray animals living in urban areas in a better way and also educate them to choose cruelty-free products, shop mindfully, discourage animal rides and circuses, and discourage animal breeders by choosing to adopt animals from shelters rather than buying them. I intend to bring into the limelight the concepts of veganism, animal rights, cruelty-free fashion, animal rescuing etc. Thus, I will be creating awareness of a wide range of animals related issues. The project mainly works upon the SDG 11 of the United Nations, but it also includes parts that correspond to SDGs 3, 12, and 13. In this project, I'll be doing a range of awareness-creating activities targeting mainly the student community. A few of these events are: delivering talks in educational institutions, organising a few theme competitions for young kids, creating posters for awareness and displaying them at places where a large number of people can see them. I also plan to build a website and make social media presence of this project to spread it as much as possible.

About the Millennium Fellow

Arshnoor Kaur is an energetic student pursuing her integrated bachelor's and master's of science at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Tirupati, India. Since childhood, she has been highly passionate about her environment and the animals in the world. Her passion tremendously grew after she rescued two helpless kittens in 2021 and raised them. After that, there was no turning back for her. She then read voraciously about animal issues and started voicing her concerns. She engaged with PETA and made the massive decision of turning vegan for the rest of her life. She says,” Addressing the various animal-related issues helps build better human communities, control climate change, and contribute to the overall health and well-being of individuals.” Arshnoor plans to take her valuable leadership experience from her formative years to a higher level and make a real-world impact by securing a prestigious leadership position. She aims to reduce speciesism by a considerable amount, thus building sustainable systems.
