The UN Millennium Fellowship will allow me to extend the reach of my existing social campaign "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Women of IIT Network
The Women of IIT Network (WIN) is a community of all female students and graduates of the 23 IITs (Indian Institute of Technology). The aim is to ensure professional and personal growth and academic excellence for each member. Studies have shown that gender differences in self-confidence in STEM subjects begin in middle school and increase in high school and college, with girls reporting less confidence than boys do in their math and science ability. In part, boys develop greater confidence in STEM through experience developing relevant skills. A number of studies have shown that gender differences in self-confidence disappear when variables such as previous achievement or opportunity to learn are controlled. We hope to provide these opportunities to learn and skills to women in IITs through leadership development, industrial training, technical upskilling, mentoring, and a strong peer network. We have over 2500 members of the community presently.
