Being a part of the Millennium Fellowship will enhance my creative skills and make my ideas turn into reality. This Fellowship will boost my confidence and encourage me more in working toward a social cause. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Beyond Platic
Our aim through this project was to reduce the adverse effects climate change has on our lives. Nearly every element of our life is impacted by the climate, from our food supplies, transportation systems, and clothing choices, to our vacation destinations. We're seeing a significant change in climate as a result of global warming, making it a very relevant topic in contemporary affairs. Not only this but climate change also determines which areas are most vulnerable to severe weather or whichwildlife species are most at risk from it. The intensity and frequency of extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, heat waves, droughts, wildfires, and floods, are expected to increase. Climate change has an impact on almost every weather event. Currently, 190 million people reside in places that are anticipated to experience high tides owing to sea level rise. Since Mumbai is also seeing a spontaneous rise in sea levels, we feel that it’s really an important matter that needs immediate attention hence we chose SDG 13.
The work we do includes: Cleaning the beaches all around Mumbai, and Maharashtra and supplying the plastic recovered to NGOs and industries for the purpose of recycling. We also organise webinars at College with renowned climate activists, lawyers, nutritionists etc to spread awareness among students about the seriousness of this calamity and how it’s not going to spare anyone. Furthermore, through our initiative we want more and more people to practise sustainability on a daily basis to promote concern towards the environment.
