Jai Hind College | Mumbai, India | Advancing SDG 13 & UNAI 9

" As a Volunteer, I am excited to learn about different cultures and languages, expand my networks and gain unmatched professional and life experiences. Working for the welfare of people would give me the opportunity to step outside my comfort zone, to learn new approaches to tasks and problems and to operate in different environments. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Beyond Plastic
We aim to spread awareness about climate change and the hazardous effects it can have on human life. We plan to clean the beaches and donate the collected plastic for recycling and promote sustainable practices at the college level- like waste management using 6 different dustbins, forming telegram/Whatsapp groups to keep the readers/students in the loop reminding them that climate change is not a hoax. We'll try to do deep research on fast fashion on our college campus via various surveys and write a research paper on how this industry is contributing to environmental pollution. Additionally, we plan to plant more trees around the college campus and use RTI to know about govt steps to control climate change, encourage people to do a regular PUC check for their vehicles, and conduct webinars on promoting sustainability, circular economy, and veganism.
About the Millennium Fellow
Tanisha Kulkarni is a promising student at our college studying a Bachelors of Arts degree, majoring in Political Science and Psychology. Over the years, she has built a good fundamental knowledge of the principles of global studies and the different areas of study in this vast field. She has been keen to build on her existing knowledge and to learn in-depth about the varied branches of global affairs. Tanisha has been doing much for the larger society as well. As a senior volunteer with Goonj, she has organized various fund-raising events, road-shows and campaigns to help underprivileged children get their fair share in society. An outspoken and mature girl, Tanisha has also worked proactively with the Athma Shakti Vidyalaya Society (NGO) where she has assisted in their rehabilitation programs for drug addicts and schizophrenics.
A confident young woman, Tanisha has very good written and spoken communication skills, a trait that is very essential in today’s global world. Public Speaking is her true strength and I strongly believe that she has the ability to influence people. She has an excellent command over English and is able to build trust and comfort with others easily. Aditionally, she's also a trained "Kathak" Dancer and takes classes for children in her viscinity. Tanisha truly wants to work towards making a world where everyone is equal in fundamental worth or moral status.
