" We tend to thrive in environments that are engaging and give us a sense of belonging. Millennium Fellowship is my place with like-minded peers with whom I can come up with different ideas to develop our local and international communities. We will work on these ideas to change the abstract to concrete and make lives better. I am happy to have found such a thriving community in Millennium Fellowship "
Millennium Fellowship Project: She-Techie Africa
She-Techie Africa is a for-women project by Millennium Fellows: Donald
Okello, Brian Githinji, and Charlotte Awino, aiming to engage young women from marginalized communities in order to increase their education and career outcomes. It is an appreciation of the fact that women in third-world countries do not have a level playing field in career and education outcomes in comparison to their male counterparts. Instead, they are held back by social injustices such as high pregnancy rates, which increase the drop-out rates among school-going girls. During the Millennium Fellowship period between August and December 2022, this project has the objective of carrying out a minimum of three forums where we will use mentorship sessions and skill-
building classes on STEM careers to build a forte for high-school-age girls to engage in conventionally male-dominated industries. It will do this using a combination of round-table discussions, fun team-building activities, and workshops chaired by industry experts.
