Challenge - DISEASE BURDEN ON HEALTH SYSTEM OF PAKISTAN
According to statistics, Pakistan is facing a lot of burden on healthcare system due to
communicable as well as non-communicable diseases. This effect was particularly highlighted when the
pandemic arose, demanding attention to be given to the system of healthcare.
● Impact- why is DISEASE BURDEN a CHALLENGE
❖ ECONOMIC IMPACT
▪ - the cumulative health expenditure by federal and provincial govt went up by
14.35 % from 421.78b last year 2019-2020 to 482.27 billion in 2021-2022
▪ Budget getting inflated at high level.
▪ Clear indication of deterioration of health system if preventive steps not taken in
time.

▪ Patients unable to fulfill their roles as member of society and as a member of

WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM OUR PLAN?
We expect that imparting the knowledge to people, who normally have no idea about it, or those who
usually ignore it, will help to lessen the disease burden and spread on disease in the first place. The
health and lifestyle of people will improve and this will eventually lead to a better society.
About the Millennium Fellow
Minahil Fatima is a passionate, impressive and goal oriented medical student at King Edward Medical University, Lahore. She was born in Sahiwal and currently living in Lahore in order to pursue her degree in MBBS.
About her academic career, she has always been actively taking part in not only organising but compering in multiple events taking place in her institutes. Her art skills also make her stand out and contribute to organising different events.
Her burning desire to create an impact and betterment in people's lives made her enter the world of medicine.
According to her, "The center of medical universe is the patient" which is her motivation to bear all the difficulties and hardships one faces being the part of a medical grinder but give one's patients the maximum number of healthier and happier days they dont know they can have.
The same is her driving force of being a part of Millennium Fellowship to raise knowledge among people about not taking their health for granted but speak about the minor issues which ultimately lead to horrible disasters if not treated on time.
