Challenge - DISEASE BURDEN ON HEALTH SYSTEM OF PAKISTAN
According to statistics, Pakistan is facing a lot of burden on the healthcare system due to communicable as well as non-communicable diseases. This effect was particularly highlighted when the pandemic arose, demanding attention to be given to the system of healthcare.
Impact- why is DISEASE BURDEN a CHALLENGE
ECONOMIC IMPACT :
- the cumulative health expenditure by federal and provincial govt went up by 14.35 % from 421.78 billion the last year 2019-2020 to 482.27 billion in 2021-2022
-The budget getting inflated at a high level.
-A clear indication of deterioration of health system if preventive steps are not taken in time.
SOCIAL IMPACT:
-Mental stress
-People keeping the diseased aloof
-Patients unable to fulfill their roles as members of society and as a member of the family
-Overall hierarchy of society getting disturbed

-hepatitis 7.6%
OUR PROJECT – EMPHASIS ON NCDs (NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES);
WHY NCDs - a significant contribution :
-Responsible for 58% of deaths according to 2020 data
-85% of disease burden on the country 2019 data

COPD (10% includes emphysema and bronchitis)

WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM OUR PLAN?
We expect that imparting the knowledge to people, who normally have no idea about it, or those who usually ignore it, will help to lessen the disease burden and spread of disease in the first place. The health and lifestyle of people will improve and this will eventually lead to a better society
About the Millennium Fellow
Eager to bring positive change in lives of the people, Warda Rasool is a young and highly talented medical student of King Edward Medical College. With a very positive outlook on life, she believes that small initiatives taken in time can turn out to bring a massive change. Her years of experience at volunteering and various leadership positions pushed her to pursue the dream of helping vulnerable lives and she now is actively advocating SDG-3.
