" Innovation is not something you are born with, it is an art which has to be taught. As a Millennium Fellow, the skills I will learn here will expand my thinking capabilities enabling me to engage in more meaningful projects in the future to help not only my Fellow Malawians but the globe. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Mental health is wealth

I would like to visit approximately 3 secondary schools or universities to hold a few talks on mental health and depression. I will mainly focus on tackling depression to help people understand the condition. Initially I wanted to target adolescents living with HIV and AIDS but it may be difficult to target these individuals in a classroom. So I hope to have a few visuals (maybe placards or brochures) to share. To keep the audience interested I will have maybe some sweets or simple snacks if the funding allows.

About the Millennium Fellow

Mwabi Sichinga is an ambitious but humble young man who is passionate about influencing change around him at any level he can. He was born in Blantyre, Malawi and for ever since he can remember, he's always wanted to be a medical doctor. The idea of helping those around him was not only something satisfying but it also enticed further learning and effort. Currently he's a final year medical student at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (formerly University of Malawi- College of Medicine). It was really during his university experience where he learned the vital aspects of prevention in care of patients, this lead to him developing an interest in the sustainable development goals and as a result, he looks forward to interacting with other like minded individuals to hopefully not only influence local change but global change as well.
