" Networking is the backbone of any community, especially due to the diversity it offers. Millennium Fellowship class of 2022, alongside the sizeable number of its alumni brings forth the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. This, alongside the impactful programs I have witnessed from the previous class, makes Millennium Fellowship the perfect program to kick-start my dream of a worldwide community of women in tech and STEM as a whole. This way, we will not only nurture career paths, but also do our part towards actualization of the Sustainable Development Goals. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: It's Okay not to be Okay
It's Okay not to be okay is a mental health sloggan that encourages people to know that they do not have to be okay all the time. And the times that they are not, it's fine not to be. The project involves exercise, plogging, and Art therapy. The above exercises helps one relieve stress, anxiety and depression. Helping us to engage with the community more.
About the Millennium Fellow
Deborah Jepkemoi Lagat, an Informatics student at Moi University, is a spirited, zealous and purpose-driven girl in STEM. She was born and raised in Baringo, but currently resides in Kajiado. She has had an interest in affairs involving girls and women, but it was until she joined campus did she become interested in Tech and women in STEM. A challange she went through was getting the right mentorship from her peers, especially women, to help her tread the field when she was a beginner. This is where she got the idea to form a community of women and girls interested or curious to explore Tech, in order to bring a sense of comfort in the particularly male dominated field, especially in her country. She aspires to eventually form a worldwide community for women and girls in STEM, to help others like her who might not have the right mentorship to advance their career in Tech-related fields.
