" Joy Mutongi Khalai is a first born daughter in a family of five. She was born in Nairobi County and has been raised there and currently resides there as well, she is studying at Moi University as a student of Bachelor of Science in Financial Economics. Since Joy was a kid, she loved hearing people's issues out and try to solve them, little did she know that as she grew up she would develop an interest in listening to people. This grew from just an interest to a passion that made her be passionate about matters mental health and well being of the same. Throughout her highschool years, she was always involved in leadership and problem solving, she was even the head of her school which aided in her current leadership in campus. She currently is chairing a club at school namely Unmasked Society Annex Campus in Moi University which is a mental health awareness organization based in school. She is honored to have both the leadership skills and the passion for mental health which drive her to run the society. She , together with her team of leaders went for a Mental health awareness walk held in October in Eldoret Town, Uasin Gishu County,Kenya. She desires that the African community would embrace the evolution of times and be more aware and interested in their mental well being, after all doesn't everyone desire peace of mind?
Joy is grateful for Millennium Fellowship for this opportunity to better herself so that she can better the society as well, to be able to contribute to the United Nations sustainable development goals, especially to the third one that deals with good health and well being. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Amani Mental Health and Fitness Program
It was a project to use the fitness center based in campus as a form of releasing stress among fellow students by improving the facility by looking for better machines for working out for mental health.

Joy Mutongi Khalai is a first born daughter in a family of five, the 'tough one' my brother calls me, she's currently a Moi University student, studying Bachelor of Science in Financial Economics.She was born in Nairobi County and has been raised there and currently resides there. Well, since Joy was a kid,she loved hearing people out and listening to people's issues and help them figure out a solution, little dod she know it would turn out to be one of her most favourite things to do which have driven her to be passionate about matters mental health and it's awareness. Throughout her highschool,she was an outstanding leader,in fact she became the school captain,that was the name then,this was a tremendous amount of responsibility for her that shaped her to be a good leader and having the skills to be able to lead a club in campus. She was given the opportunity to lead Unmasked Society Annex Campus, a mental health awareness organization in Moi University, which has created both leadership and pursuit for mental health awareness and advocacy opportunities. She is looking forward to learning and getting the most from this Fellowship to equip myself with better skills to apply in the future. She desires that now that the African community is evolving,so will their views on expressing themselves fully which basically is what mental health awareness is all about. She hopes that through this, she'll be able to contribute to the United Nations development of the sustainable development goals especially the third one that deals with good health and well being.
