" Helping the needy has always got me happiness and inner peace. Now, getting to work with students of similar mindset and celebrating the success of making it happen would be very wholesome. Also, the thought that my ideas which will be practically implemented gives joy. Overall to be called as a Millennium Fellow brings a sense of pride and satisfaction that we have achieved something through social works. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Silenced Stories
Silenced Stories is a group project led by Millennium Fellows Jharana Awasthi and Rahul Rathnakara. With this project, we aim to provide assistance to victims of sexual crimes irrespective of their gender. With the help of students and faculty of NITK, we will start support groups where there is an equal mix of genders for people to talk about their experiences and seek help. These support groups will be held once a month initially and the frequency will be increased once we have more people coming in. We will conduct two online sessions on spreading awareness and encourgaging people to speak up and seek help. Additionally, we will visit local schools once a month to educate students about good touch and bad touch and the common social stigmas that exist around speaking up about such situations and what steps they should take if they have faced a similar situation. We will have talks with our college therapist to understand the trauma and try to arrange sessions with the therapist to provide professional help.
