Millennium Fellowship Project: Sagyan
The name of our project is Project 'SACHET'. In this project, we plan to conduct a legal literacy program specially targeting secondary level of Bhakti International Academy which is located in Hattigauda of Kathmandu district, where teenagers student are more curious about the legal aspects of basic rights and procedures of remedy in case of violation of rights.
Although their curriculum has mentioned about few aspects of human rights, teenagers being a vulnerable and sensitive group of a society, they lack remedial measures and access to justice when it comes to the issue of harassment, bullying, child sexual abuse, and domestic violence. We cannot imagine of crimeless society but we, as students of law, can work together for improving the legal consciousness and preventing illegal and criminal behavior among teenagers. The teenagers, in the physiological and psychological growth stage, are easily influenced by numerous socially negative beliefs and behaviors and we, including society are committed to the cause. There is no doubt, Nepal has a strong institutional and legal system for rendering justice when it comes to child rights but children who are more prone to being victims of numerous crimes are unknown about the procedures and institutions where they can seek justice. Thus, we are planning to build bridge between justice and potential victims through our project. We have planned this project with a long-term view of improving the legal education of juveniles to enhance the nation's overall quality, resulting in impacting a whole new generation. To conduct this project, we aspire to coordinate with child rights organizations, helpline providers, cyber bureau, human rights advocates, and youths. We are also starting the policy research, fund raising programs, call for volunteers, in order to meet our financial and technical expenses for the project.
