Millennium Fellowship Project: Green Delta

"Green Delta" is is a project formed by some young undergraduate students in my school. The project aims at curbing marine pollution in the rural coastal communities of the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. This region is known for its crude oil exploration. The process of getting this resources and refining it in the region, leads to crude oil pollution and other related pollution in the region, such as gas flaring. The pollution of the coastal waters of this region has left most its locals without a source of livelihood. Green Delta aims at letting the inhabitants of this region know why the Niger Delta coastal waters should not be polluted.

We basically chose to do this project because of the level of pollution in the region. And also, the project is related to our course of study. This helped us to be more informed of the venture we were diving into. We do understand the population of people that needs to be environmentally aware, that is why we chose to continue after Millennium Fellowship.
