Millennium Fellowship Project: Mission Shanthipuram

Mission Shanthipuram is a student driven project, backed by various groups, focusing on the transformation of Shanthipuram Colony of Ernakulam into a Township. There are several students working on various aspects like gender equality, digital literacy and increasing legal awareness. The project aims to sensitize the people about their rights and the various legal provisions avaliable to them with an aim to make them self-reliant and sustainable. The project aims to conduct various workshops and talks by bringing in activists and philanthropists. Our project focuses primarily on SDG Goal 4 focusing on quality education and increasing opportunities for the youth . The initial leg of the project would focus on making the youth of Shanthipuram more aware of the educational opportunities avaliable to them and helping them make an informed decision about their furture. By the end of the programme the project seeks to make the community more literate and empowered in a way that are aware of their rights and can now fight for what is rightfully theirs.

About the Millennium Fellow

Athena Santhosh is a young, cheerful and optimistic law student at the National
University of Advanced Legal Studies. She was born in India, completed most of her school education in Saudi Arabia and later returned to India to complete her higher education. Her extremely friendly nature helped her expand her friend circle across borders. Her experiences in Saudi Arabia and India brought her close to the challenges that common people face in their daily lives. She has always been eager to help others and bring positive changes to society. The gender gap and environmental issues were the most troubling social issues for her. She tried to curb these issues by sensitizing the public about these crucial global challenges and how each person can bring a change. She aspires to be a lawyer and to work with the UN in the future to plan a better tomorrow.
