" As I reside in a very backward town of Jharkhand and my mother is employed in a very remote area so growing up I understood what is the problem and what needs to be done and being a law student UN Millennium Fellowship program will provide me a platform to offer solutions, to bring aid and assistance to the problems that exists with tribal women at the grass root level and will help me meet with people who are passionate and are aware of the tribal women problems, will help us to raise the problem of the Sexual Health and Reproductive Rights of tribal women, which in turn will improve the outcome as a whole. As Jharkhand is one of the most backward and poorest state of India, more than half of the population is below the poverty line and lacks minimum basic facilities, this program could help us to understand the underlying problem in a much better way so that we can offer more appropriate solutions with the help of professionals and other volunteers, as my university is also situated in Tribal majority area of Jharkhand it will help us a lot more to support our cause. Also, the name of UN will generate trust amongst the general public who can help us in their own ways like in field work, researching, etc. It will provide impetus to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of United Nations at global, regional and national level. I am still guided by the lines of Robert Frost- The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, miles to go befpre I sleep!" "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Samman: Our Body Our Right

My project primarily focuses on the sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) of the tribal women residing in the state of Jharkhand, India. SRHR includes efforts to remove avoidable maternal and infant mortality and diseases, to ensure quality sexual and reproductive health services, including contraceptive services, and to address sexually transmitted infections (STI) and other aspects of women sexual healthcare and wellbeing.
Under the aegis of this project I plan to work in stages-
Firstly, tribal women do not want to talk about the problems that they face so approaching and making them talk is a difficult task which needs awareness programs from the people of their own communities so that its easier for them to state their problems. We can choose few people from their community and try to make them understand the problem that exists and about our goals. Further, appointing few leaders from their communities, collaborating with volunteers appointed by panchayat called sahiya and anganwadi workers to convey our ideas to tribal women will help us reach our goal. Will make them aware about the government measures that is designed for their benefit and will try to give policy recommendations to the government, changes that needs to be brought in the existing policy.
We would be visiting the villages that comprise the tribal population twice a week. We will start by collecting surveys which will provide me with grounds for making policy recommendations to the government and organizing awareness programs like webinars, seminars, campaigns, and competitions where they would be awarded on reaching a specific goal.
Organizing various awareness campaigns, involving medical experts and working in collaboration with government-appointed volunteers in our program, we also plan to organize competitions like poster making in the context of the awareness project which will be based on certain themes, distributing pamphlets, raising funds to meet or specific purpose with the help of social media and others means, so that we can reach to the problems at its ground level.
