" " I am very passionate about promoting the idea of sexual and reproductive health and rights which are largely considered as a taboo in Indian society. I belive that being selected a Millennuim Fellow is a big stride towards achieving my goal. The platform will provide me with such needed visibility and a global stage where I can plant the sapling of the change I want to see in future. However, I am still guided by the lines of Robert Frost - The woods are lovely, dark, deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep! " "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Samman: Our Body Our Right

Being a women and a resident of the state of Jharkhand, which is a tribal and one of the most backward state of India, my project deals with Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of tribal women in my state. These women are way behind the mainstream development. These women live in very remote areas where even basic education and general awareness seems a distant dream. Even the government policies have not provide sufficient assistance to their problems. As a result, they are deprived of their basic sexual and reproductive rights. I, being a woman, law student, and a resident of tribal state can very well understand the plight of these women. They should be made aware about menstruation hygiene, sex education, gynaecological problems, contraceptives, safe motherhood, sexually transmitted diseases and nutritious diet. The life of tribal women is so pathetic that I seriously want to work and come out with some positive result. So, my project will work in this field The project encompassed three parts- first part consists of doing ground research, second part consists of various awareness programs, and third part consists of preparing report of the research and presenting it before the appropriate authority. During the project, I will visit these women to have an interaction with them and try to understand their problem because solution to any problems lies in understanding the root cause of the problem. This groung reserach will help me to formulate policies for the betterment of these women. Various education camps, public meeting with large gatherings, medical camps, welfare programs and webinars will be conducted for spreading awareness regarding the importance of sexual and reproductive health and well- being. Sanitary napkins will also be distributed. I will also try to raise funds to support the economic cause of these women because economic cause is the root cause of almost all the major problems. Also, raising funds will help me in proving aid to these women and also to continue with my work so that there is better reach of my program. I will also collaborate with other like-minded groups or join online communities so that there is better reach of my project. Furthermore, I will make report of the problems faced by these women and will present it to the appropriate authority.
