" Being a Millennium Fellow will allow me to work and interact with people which will further bring me in touch with people whom I want to make aware and educate about their rights. Working for people specially women inspires me to become a better human being. There is so much that those tribal women can achieve and do for the society as a whole and for themselves too but are unable to because of their lack of knowledge about their rights. Such potential is not utilised properly and goes to waste. This is what keeps telling me to come forward, reach out and be their helping hand and the only way I can do this is by being a Millennium Fellow. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Samman: Our Body Our Right

A big part of Jharkhand’s population is tribal which is generally socially and economically backward. One of the major problems faced by such group of people is the lack of sanitation which affects the women comparatively more. The lack of sanitation and primary healthcare services in the interior parts of the states often leads to the suffering of this group of people in forms of many healthcare issues. The root cause of such issues can be the lack of awareness of the rights these tribal women have. This lack of consciousness and hesitancy in discussing such topics leads them to keep following the age-old traditions in every aspect of their life beginning from menstrual hygiene, proper contraceptive methods to neonatal to post-natal care of the woman. Also, the absence of the knowledge of their bodily autonomy they have. Through this project we aim to increase the awareness through various interactive conversations. The main purpose would be to use the given platform to educate the women about their basic rights and make them understand that they are the ones who have complete control over their body which will improve their living conditions and lead them to have a healthy life.
