" I am a person who possesses a heightened sense of empathy, which drives me to care about social issues and participate in projects that will significantly improve people's lives by having a positive social impact.
Being a part of the Millennium Fellowship will help me do just that. Furthermore, I'll be able to better understand and learn how to design, plan and execute a successful social impact project. I will learn effective leadership skills too, and I believe that all these skills, that I will develop by being a Millennium Fellow, are highly transferable and will greatly help later in my career by making me more competent.
Other than this, I'm very excited to work on a project that is aligned with the UN SDGs and UNAI principles, since I'm very passionate about them. "

About the Millennium Fellow

Laiba Liaquat Khan is a junior environmental engineering student at the National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan. Laiba holds a great passion for the environment and issues related to climate change. She wants to pursue a career related to climate change through which she could actively participate in solving this global crisis, by coming up with innovative solutions and strategies that can be implemented to make local communities in Pakistan, and all over the world, more resilient to the effects of climate change.
Through this social impact project, she hopes to do the same.
Furthermore, Laiba deeply cares about women's rights, animal rights, and the rights of trans people, and regularly advocates for them.
She wants to emphasize the importance of quality education for women through her project and work on making it more accessible. She believes this is even more necessary now since Pakistan is one of the most susceptible countries to the effects of climate change, and women are one of the more vulnerable and underprivileged groups in the country.
Having access to quality education will empower them more, and help them attain the tools and knowledge required to better deal with the impact of climate change on their lives.
