Millennium Fellowship Project: Igniting the Girl Child’s Potential

The United Nations holds the International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC) on October 11 annually to promote girl's rights, advocate for more opportunities for girls, to increase awareness on gender equality and also highlighting the challenges the girl child faces all over the world.
Following, the theme for this year's IDCG "Our time is now– Our right, Our future". The purpose of the project (Igniting the Girl Child's Potential) was to;
1.Assess the awareness of the knowledge on Bodily autonomy amongst rural adolescents girls.
2. Educate the girls comprehensively, on how to make autonomous decision about their bodies ( Bodily Autonomy) and reproductive funtions, which is the core of every girls basic rights to equality, privacy, and freedom from violence and abuse.
3. Boost the girls confidence on applying the principle of bodily autonomy in their daily lives, how to asserts their sexual and reproductive rights.
4. Inform them about women's right agencies such as UNFPA, UNWomen WOCON e.tc Hence, reducing gender gaps, unwanted pregnancies, discrimination and violence among adolescents.

About the Millennium Fellow

Jesutofunmi Mary Omidiji is enthusiastic, optimistic and smart. She's a student of the prestigious school Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State Nigeria, where she study Pharmacology. She was born and also reside in Nigeria. Jesutofunmi is committed to impacting everyone around her positively. Her compassionate and empathetic nature towards people fuels her passion for advococaies for women's rights, gender equality and quality education. With years of service in community outreach initiatives, and lot of social impact she has involved into for the development of the United Nations' Sustainable Goal. Jesutofunmi is ready to take her social impact to the next level and into a professional field, in other to effectively reach out and impact lives.
