" Being a part of Millennium Fellowship will help sharpen my skills especially in the aspect of leadership,networking , empathy and how to reach a wider group in my quest to make a healthy community. I do this in other to ensure people get to enjoy good health and not have to live in sickness or aliment that could have been prevented early on. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Igniting the Girl Child’s Potential

The United Nations holds the International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC) on October 11 annually to promote girl's rights, advocate for more opportunities for girls, to increase awareness on gender equality and also highlighting the challenges the girl child faces all over the world.
Following, the theme for this year's IDCG "Our time is now– Our right, Our future". The purpose of the project (Igniting the Girl Child's Potential) was to;
1.Assess the awareness of the knowledge on Bodily autonomy amongst rural adolescents girls.
2. Educate the girls comprehensively, on how to make autonomous decision about their bodies ( Bodily Autonomy) and reproductive funtions, which is the core of every girls basic rights to equality, privacy, and freedom from violence and abuse.
3. Boost the girls confidence on applying the principle of bodily autonomy in their daily lives, how to asserts their sexual and reproductive rights.
4. Inform them about women's right agencies such as UNFPA, UNWomen WOCON e.tc Hence, reducing gender gaps, unwanted pregnancies, discrimination and violence among adolescents.

About the Millennium Fellow

Abisola Timilehin Segun is a hardworking,young,passionate at Olabisi Onabanjo University. He was born in Nigeria and resides in Oyo state,Ibadan and he's currently studying medicine. Timilehin has always been passionate about improving the health of the people in his community in his little ways he can . This has drived him to be involved in various volunterism projects like working in a health centre for free just to utilize the nationwide strike in his country, make bulletins and compose messages to enlighten his community about the prevalence diseases. He is also a member of various community like Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health(SCORA). Timilehin hopes to continue his advocacy programme when he became a Doctor and improve the health of his community on a large scale.
