" I believe that there are four ingredients required to make a positive impact- passion, knowledge, leadership and hard work. The skills I gain from the Millennium Fellowship will help me strike a balance between these, making me more efficient in realising the tangible change I wish to make in the world. I am excited to learn and grow with Fellow aspiring changemakers. Together, we can get one step closer to a sustainable future. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Meri Kahaani Suno

Project Meri Kahaani Suno' is an initiative to understand how problems of gender, environment and sustainability overlap in a complex manner. 'Meri kahaani suno' is Hindi for 'listen to my story'.

Members of this project come from different parts of India. However, we are all currently situated at Sonepat, Haryana- on campus at our university. Our research will therefore be based on Haryanvi women and their stories. Haryana has the lowest female sex ratio in our country. 68.82% of women are unemployed in the state. The most recently available data of literacy rates in Haryana show that only 55.73% of women are educated. We want to answer the question 'why?' and then start by communicating that answer to our large student body consisting of women and sustainability activists.

Research will be conducted on- field because we believe that having a personal connect and learning the women's stories and problems on ground is the only way to truly comprehend the reality of their situation. We feel that the passion we have toward helping the women folk and advancing sustainability will only be effective in this manner. The findings of the project will be communicated through the art of storytelling.

The members of Project Meri Kahaani Suno will compile all the stories, pictures and research into a coffee table book. The process of printing and producing these books will involve local small businesses and recycled material. We believe that research and production of our project should be as 'green' as possible. 100% of the profits from the book sales will go toward helping the women communities that have been represented in the book. Further, the members of the project will host events in the university where stories are shared and discussions take place, in order to spread awareness and inspire action.

We hope to positively impact the lives of the local womenfolk around us and also the lives of students aspiring to be changemakers.
