UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT SARA GARCÍA VENERO, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2022.
Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú | Lima, Peru | Advancing SDG 4 & UNAI 3

" There is no such thing as a complicated child, only rigid systems that do not allow for diversity. My objective is to promote and advocate for the free development of children with ADHD in Peru and Latin America. In the region there are many stereotypes surrounding this issue, and many children are constantly discriminated against for being "problem children", without taking into account that they could be children with ADHD. It is necessary for schools and society in general to be more educated about this disorder and its impact on academic life. We need to work for those children who are placed in the back seats of the class, so that with a professional accompaniment, they can become great leaders. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: PAIT Project (Proyecto de Apoyo e Integración TDAH)
PAIT searches to create change in the current process of treatment of possible and fully diagnosed children with ADHD in the classroom, offering multiple tools to keep parents, teachers and classmates educated about this disorder in low income schools in Peru, in order to promote early diagnosis and sensibilization with the purpose of eliminate prejudices around ADHD.
About the Millennium Fellow
Sara García is a law student at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, who was born on February 7, 2004 in Cusco, Peru. She grew up and was educated in Lima. Her leadership and responsibility were shown in the classroom very often. On several occasions she assumed the role of delegate of her class, helping many of her classmates to organize and connect effectively with the lessons. Sara has always been a pioneer and advocate of education, and considers it an elemental factor in building not only a more educated society, but one that is more involved in today's global processes. She has had to face challenges in her education due to the fact that at the age of 7, she was diagnosed with ADHD. This situation caused her to build false stereotypes about her abilities for many years. She was able to overcome those stigmatizations in high school, when she realized that if she made an effort and received the proper medical support, she could exploit her abilities to the fullest. Sara was able to get the best grades in her class, thanks to the constant support of her family, teachers and friends. The treatment of ADHD at an early age helped her to become the person she is today, who is passionate about human rights and the protection of freedoms in the legal field. That is why she aspires to be a lawyer in the field of international law, which will allow her to watch over the rights of children with special needs in the educational environment, offering them equal opportunities and safe spaces free of discrimination.
