" I am forever inspired by intiatives like these that remind the world why voices like ours matter. We have visions to uplift and change the lives of others through our projects and in the process are motivating ourselves in realizing we are the future we have been working towards to see! "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Mentor-Mentee Connect Program

The Mentor-Mentee Connect program is designed to connect Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) first-year students with third-year and fourth-year students. My goal for the program is that students connect through their financial and future-oriented goals and also use their interactions to shed light on mental health and personal well-being in the context of shared cultural values.

My program plans to will launch this coming fall 2022 semester and is estimated to recruit, not limited to, at least 5 third-year and 5 fourth-year students mentors. Mentors can connect with as many mentees as they would like to, but cannot surpass 3 mentees. Hence, each mentor will be assigned to at least two mentees. 10 first-year students join Mentor-Mentee Connect’s will be incoming to the program’s first ever class.

Mentors and mentees will be matched through a survey that will go out during the upcoming summer asking questions about hobbies and musical interests. Either having a shared major or future/ career endeavors will be the primary criteria that set the basis for a mentor and mentee’s eligibility for being recruited into the program.
