Millennium Fellowship Project: Project RAKSHA

My project will deal with the proper rehabilitation of the victims of sexual offences. For this, firstly a policy will be drafted based on data collected from the sexual victim's rehabilitation centres. The data collection and quantification will be done on the following parameters 1. Living Conditions of the victim in the rehabilitation centre. 2. Existing legal rights of the victims. The rights will be seen through the prism of various interpretations of Article 21 of the Constitution of India and Article 3 of the UN Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women, 1993. 3. Healthcare services (Physical as well as Mental), provided to the victims. To know more about the real scenario, the victims would be interviewed keeping them anonymous. A selected set of people from the society would also be interviewed to know about the real perspective of the society against such victims. Based on these data and interviews, a practical and implementable policy would be drafted for their better rehabilitation and healthcare services. The policy will be drafted keeping in mind the needs of the victim and the loopholes in the existing system. The policy will aim to
1. Strengthen the infrastructure for rehabilitation of victims of sexual offences.
2. Improve the healthcare facilities for the victims.
3. Focus on the mental health of the victim and a proper recovery against the trauma caused by the incident.
4. Develop a proper mechanism for restoration of their status quo in society.
5. To provide better opportunities to the victims.
6. Achieve proper treatment of victims by society.
Secondly, based on these findings, the victims would be educated about their legal rights, the opportunities for them in the world. As the serpent usually hisses where the sweet bird sings. So, the school children would also be educated about the difference between a 'Good Touch' and a 'Bad touch'. Awareness would be spread amongst the school-going children about the legal rights and methods of protection against 'Bad Touch'. The area for the data collection and spreading awareness would be the region of Patiala, Chandigarh, and Delhi (NCR) [India].
