UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT HARSHEETA RAI SHARMA, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2022.
Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law | Patiala, India | Advancing SDG 3 & UNAI 2

" I believe myself to be privileged enough to have acquired the hard as well as soft skills of creativity, leadership, ability to express myself, and others, despite coming from a town where nobody knew about law entrance examinations. When such skills meet the right opportunity, and are fuelled by a meaningful purpose, they create an invincible energy to do something worthwhile for the upliftment of others. The literature that I have read and the inspirational figures whose lives I have seen shall definitely help me further in attaining my goals with the Fellowship. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: R.E.A.D.: Redefining Education Amidst Diversity
This project will primarily be responsible for working in 4 spheres and creating Awareness about:
1. Menstrual Hygiene;
2. Governement Schemes;
3. Financial Literacy;
4. Digital Literacy.
5. Gender Diversity.
I will be leading the projet with my focus being on SDG 3 and SDG 4.
This project will have 2 phases to fulfill the first objective:
1. University Premises:
All the low-income earning staff of the University was approached with a sample of sanitary napkins to know their current mentrual practices, educate them of the
consequences of poor menstrual hygiene and make them aware of the existing
scheme. This feedback is yet to be taken of the product offered by the government, the existing problems and taboos that are still there. Alongside this, we attempted to educate them of all the three areas as well.
2. Each one, teach two:
All the professors of the University will be approached and especially the female
professors will be requested to talk to 2 of the domestic helps in their house and tell
them about the scheme, consequences of poor menstrual hygiene and record their
reponse objectively in the google form that shall be circulated to them.
Further, school authorities were contacted and provided with a 2-page basic
guidelines on menstruation, menstrual product and scheme of the governemnt.
The responses were recorded to know the existing state of affairs with regard to
menstruation in India. Stories, posters and videos were used to diseminate the information on all the 4 spheres of the project.
About the Millennium Fellow
Harsheeta Rai Sharma is a young, visionary and creative girl pursuing law at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala, India. She belongs to a sub-rural district of Punjab, India where people, mainly farmers, have a life of minimalism, culture, peace and dignity. Evidently, she has closely witnessed the lack of awareness and also certain social evils while growing up. But now, with globalization and technological advances, she aims to pull out her native communities, out of the shackles of their narrow domestic perspectives, and bring them at par with the progressing world. She is a follower of the traditional Hindu philosophies given in Bhagawad Gita, and hence, believes that sincere service to the society is the sole purpose of life. Hindu mythological figure Draupadi is her role model for courage to do anything, and being around greenery and nature is her favourite mode of recreation.
