Millennium Fellowship Project: Verve Horticultural Production Project
Verve Farms Horticultural Production project, is one of the projects developed by Verve Ag-Innovate Ltd, a company that has been cofounded by a Millenium Fellow, Chichi Ntaganira Brave, and two Millenium Fellowship Alumni namely Elie Mugisha and Nsabimana Venuste, with a mission to promote food security in Rwanda. This project aims to supply local markets, restaurants and hotels with fresh and quality vegetables produced under consideration of conservation agriculture, one health and integrated pest management principles, to not only supply healthy foods, but also protect environment. During the Millenium Fellowship period (August-December 2022), this project was anticipated to supply almost one ton of fresh vegetables to near by local markets, and employ 20 laborers on a casual basis. However, the project will continue to operate even after the completion of the fellowship, with the goal of scaling up operations from conventional farming to vertical farming, in order to use scarce resources including land and water, sustainably and responsibly.
About the Millennium Fellow
Chichi Ntaganira Brave is an entrepreneur and aspiring agriscientist on a mission to revolutionize agriculture in Rwanda through conservation agriculture, and plant biotechnology. He heads Verve Ag-Innovate Ltd., a company which promotes food security in Rwanda. His desired outcome is high yielding quality crops, resilient profitable farms, and reduced post-harvest loss, all of which will contribute to a food secured country. Currently he is expanding his agricultural knowledge and skillset at the Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture (RICA), an internationally-recognized, accredited higher education institute in Rwanda that specializes in conservation agriculture and one health principles, with the aim to educate a new generation of innovators and entrepreneurs in Agriculture.
