Millennium Fellowship Project: The Nancy Apple Production Farm

The Nancy Apple Production Farm (NAPF) is a project that will be producing a special kind of apples called the Wambugu apples which are apples that can grow in any type of climate with very high production which is one of the reasons why there is a very low production of apples in Rwanda. NAPF intends to work with local farmers by getting them the seeds for wambugu apples training them on how they are grown to maximize yield and getting them a market for the apples. Over 90% of the apples consumed in Rwanda are imported because the climate is not favorable for apple production this makes apples on the local market very expensive and it is even more expensive for local processing industries that use apples as a raw material. This project will be providing a solution to an existing problem while also changing the lives for the local farmers that will be involved in the project. This will create a source of income for these local farmers reducing poverty and food insecurity and provide quality affordable apples on the local markert.
