Millennium Fellowship Project: CHAITANYA
Our project is named 'Chaitanya' which means 'consciousness' or 'awareness'. The project is named so because we want to spread awareness on child and women's rights. Article 15(3) of our Constitution talks about making special provisions for women and children. As law students, we want to work in furtherance of this right by uplifting women and children. Our project aims at encouraging women to realise their worth and fight against the evils of domestic violence, acid attack, child marriage and teenage pregnancy. Children are also subjected to a lot of evils like child labour, an early dropout from school, teenage pregnancy etc. We aim to create awareness in society about these issues and ensure that these evils to a certain extent are eliminated from society. We have till now conducted various workshops with women and children to make them aware of their rights. We told them about the welfare schemes started by the government and even made them aware of the helpline numbers available. Our project has created a huge impact on the targeted audience. After each session, we keep a Question and answer session and the questions that the audience ask ensures us that our message has reached them.
