" I have a will to protect my home, my planet, from dying; a will to not let pollution tarnish the legacy I leave behind for my children. Being a Millennium Fellow is an excellent way to learn how to effectively act and share these ideals with the world. Believe me, we need it. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Segregation at Source
The project has 3 primary elements. Each element will first be carried out at our college campus, and then we will reach out to various other Offices and Schools located in Delhi NCR in India for the same. The elements are as follows:
1. Introducing segregated bin system so that it is easier to separately collect dry recyclable material. We are presently conducting a non-biodegradable dry recyclable waste weekly collection drive at our college, to try and make up for the lack of segregated bins.
2. Conducting awareness sessions to make the audience understand the 'why' and 'how' to use segregated bin system properly. We will convey the gravity of threat climate change poses on our planet and also request them to carry out waste segregation at their house. Further, we will be teaching e-waste management in these sessions too because most Indians do not know how to carry it out.
3. Connecting the institutions that we conduct our project in, to a recycling organisation. We have already gotten in touch with a NOIDA-based recycling organisation which is also willing to pick up the dry recyclable waste collected via the segregated bin system from areas where we are interested in conducting out project. The waste that we collect from college is sent to this organisation for recycling. We will be reaching out to more organisation for other areas.
