" "Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.” - Kofi Annan
Education is the key to unlocking not only an individual’s potential but a whole generation’s future and impact on their society, and even the world. Education has immense transformative power, but it can only be apprehended when spread throughout a population’s youth, and when formal institutions assure it from an early age. Despite being a right to every child (Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the General Assembly in 1989), it remains a privilege in many countries. I believe achieving worldwide quality education is more important than ever, and this is why I am engaged in defending this cause, near and far.
I am so excited about getting to join a program that will enable me with tools to promote this cause on a new level. By becoming a Millennium Fellow, I am stepping into a new level of engagement for the causes which I care about, and getting the skills to promote and defend them more effectively. I join a worldwide network of students and individuals whose interests and passion I share: social impact. I am really grateful for the opportunity to join this program, and will do my best effort to apply the learnt skills and practices not only on current projects but a posteriori as well. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Gallicismes
Our project, Gallicismes, aims to provide essential interactive linguistic skills and civic resources to immigrants in need in the city of Le Havre.
Upon arrival, the language barrier proves to be a major difficulty for vulnerable immigrants, specially for much needed procedures such as finding an accommodation, or getting health support, but also daily situations like doing groceries. Working with a local association, we will propose a basic French course for our class, focused on elemental skills and interactive skills to be able to navigate this new administrative world and daily life in France.
