Stella Maris College | Chennai, India | Advancing SDG 16 & UNAI 6

" My skills of creativity and leadership, I believe, would be honed by being a part of the Millennium Fellowship. They would, in fact, be beneficial to those underprivileged so I'm beyond excited to help people and create a meaningful social impact that changes their lives for the better. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Know Your Law
Our project titled ‘Know your Law’ aims to inculcate legal awareness among the students of our college. Based on SDG 16 ‘Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions’, the main emphasis of ‘Know your Law’ is to ensure that members of our community realize the full extent of our constitutional rights.
SDG 16:
‘Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels’
The Constitution of India was crafted with the citizens of India in mind. However, corruption and injustice runs rampant in the crevices of every nation’s functioning. Through this project, we wish to strive towards creating a society which grasps the scope of the laws that are available at our disposal. The project will be mainly focussing on laws and constitutional remedies that are of importance to the youth and the female community specifically. SDG 16 explicitly expresses its opposition to discriminatory laws and practices in institutions and our team will also work towards the goal of eradicating discrimination and marginalization at the grassroots level.
We hope that activities like seminars, competitions and discussion forums will facilitate the attainment of our vision. We also plan to discuss the law in relevance to contemporary issues and landmark historic cases. However, our aim is not to criticize any particular political party or community and we will always keep this in mind throughout the duration of our project.
Justice is one of the main pillars of a healthy society and, through our project, we aspire to create a positive ripple towards the wave of justice.
