" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because I know this program will help me enhance my leadership in my professional life, as well as within my organization. Ya Basta Nuevo León is not only my passion project but also a very important part of my identity. Everything I can do and learn to help my organization expand its impact I will do my very best to do so. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Ya Basta Nuevo León

Ya Basta Nuevo León (YBNL) is a feminist collective where we share important information, legal resources, political events, and analysis under a feminist lens in an easy-to-understand way. The state of Nuevo León is plagued with machismo and violence towards women, so part of our mission is to arm women with information to protect themselves physically and mentally.

About the Millennium Fellow

Roberta Portilla Ayala is a 22-year-old Mexican Law Student who has always been passionate about women's rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and human rights in general. Since she was a young child, Roberta and her family have been involved in mutual aid events, so social service has always been a part of her life. Growing up in México during one of the toughest security crises impacted her and her generation's childhoods, but Roberta, as well as many other young people, created a social consciousness that permeates her daily life. In 2019 she co-founded Ya Basta Nuevo León, a feminist organization that seeks to inform women of Nuevo León, México, about gender violence, as well as divulging important resources for victims of gender violence.
