" We all choose hope every single day in one way or the other- hope that the next day’s going to be better, hope that you are going to do amazing in your upcoming test, hope that you are going to get into your dream school, hope that you are going to land that job you have always wanted; hope is what keeps us going, hope is what gives us a reason to get out of bed every day and get going with our life. The United Nations Millennium Fellowship is my ray of hope that I would be able to impact lives positively by introducing and emphasizing on a new kind of sustainability which stems from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of good health and well-being- the dimension of “emotional sustainability.” "
Millennium Fellowship Project: HOPE
My project is broadly about creating a safe space for everyone out there who might be struggling through depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder or any other emotion associated with deteriorating mental health. I would assert that my project is less about providing therapy to such communities of people but more about improving access to help, to inculcate a sense of normalizing the act of seeking help either from friends and family or from medical professionals, helping people in my community understand what mental health really is, and breaking any sort of taboo that surrounds the domain of mental health. It’s an initiative through which I intend on spreading awareness regarding mental health, healing, and professional help in addition to creating a safe community of people where anyone and everyone can talk their issues out, feel valued, loved and cared for. HOPE aims to bring to life a newer, better world where we no longer think of mental health issues as something abnormal but as something which should be embraced as a part of life, something which you come out of stronger, something which can be healed if we decide to stand together and look out for each other. It focusses on implementing these objectives through a credible social media presence, a weekly check-in newsletter, awareness campaigns in schools and universities in addition to creating a new born culture of support groups in the Indian communities.
