Millennium Fellowship Project: Afterlives of Rape Survivors
Putting a hand forward for a topic which has been my motto to fight against since I learned what the word stands for. Rape. The project I would like to carry forward involves highlighting the afterlives of a rape victim to the society. We want to tell the people who faced this ‘ you are not a victim for sharing your story, you are a survivor setting the world on fire with your truth and you never know who needs your light, your warmth and raging courage.’ We come from a background where the society often has views about rape or rape victims that are very unsettling. Studying in a girls college, seeing and knowing about people who have faced so much is a heart wrenching feeling and gives me an emotional connect to this topic I want to give all my hard work to. Keeping this in mind, we aim to bring a change by collaborating with NGO’s, talking to victims and educating young minds on how to treat them equally. We will show this in a module, organise defence class sessions with colleges, host street plays, screen documentaries, hold fundraisers and invite speakers for a talk. In addition, we will provide them with helpline numbers and give them the legal process for justice as beneficial for avoiding rape. We will also touch upon sex education and sex assault.
