" Impact is a word i delight so much in hearing especially when it is used to qualify my efforts. I am confident that Millennium Fellowship will serve as a crane which will elevate me to a higher level of impact and enhance my advocacy for good health and well-being both now and in the future. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: FITSCAPE

My project is an intervention targeted towards 4 non-communicable diseases of increasing prevalence; obesity, diabetes, hypertension and cancer. I would achieve this by promoting healthy lifestyles, adequate nutrition and regular exercises which are proven steps in the prevention of all these diseases. It would involve awareness-based physical outreaches to rural communities in Ibadan, Nigeria and free workout sessions for young individuals which would be anchored by a fitness coach.
In August, logistics and planning as well as the selection of locations for the sessions will commence.
Between October and November, I would organise a 2 free workout session focusing on outdoor exercises for at least 2O young individuals which would be anchored by a fitness coach. I would encourage the beneficiaries to make these activities a part of their daily routine after the sessions, and they would be furnished with tips to achieve this. Adequate follow ups will be done to ensure sustainability of the project.
In November, I would organise an outreach to educate about 100 individuals on healthy living, good eating habits and the importance of regular checkups. During the outreach, a mini-checkup, involving the estimation of Body Mass Index, Blood pressure and Random blood glucose, would be conducted. People with abnormal values would be advised to see a doctor for further evaluation as soon as possible. It would also be an avenue to debunk myths and educate about non-communicable diseases. I will equally establish the importance of early presentation to health facilities upon discovery of symptoms pointing towards the aforementioned conditions and the inestimable value of good health-seeking behavior.
