" One of my innate passions has always been to ensure proper sanitation and disposal of waste materials. It was a delight to find out that my aspirations are captured in the sixth and eleventh Sustainable Development Goals, which are "CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION" and "SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITES" respectively.

I am really delighted about Millennium Fellowship because I believe it will give me the rare opportunity to network with other young leaders around the world. Through this, I will gain the necessary insights I need to make sustainable, positive environmental impact in my home country, Nigeria. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Hinsure

Description: In Nigeria like several other African nations, access to quality healthcare is a huge challenge. The inability of the large percentage of the citizens to access health care is multi factorial. Among these factors is endemic poverty that scares citizens away from seeking healthcare early. Usually, this lead to presentation of patients at the medical facilities mostly when the disease is at an advance state. Elsewhere, the use of health insurance has proven to help in addressing some of these challenges. Recently, the Nigerian President signed into law the National Health Insurance Authority Bill to build on the success that has earlier been recorded through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). As young change makers who understand the important role that health insurance plays in health care delivery, we would be engaging the members of the community, and relevant stakeholders.

Proposed Project Aim: Increase public awareness of the importance of Health Insurance.

About the Millennium Fellow

Boluwatife Elusiyan is a vibrant second-year medical student at the University of Ibadan. He has been involved in leadership right from his primary school days, where he was chosen as a library prefect.

His interests in environmental sustainability can be traced to a personal experience of the effects of poor drainage systems during heavy rainfall. As a Millennium Fellow and thereafter, he hopes to champion the causes of proper waste disposal and healthy living spaces in his school, home country (Nigeria) and Africa as a whole.

In his free time, Boluwatife enjoys graphics design, reading and making music.
