Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Hinsure

In Nigeria like several other African nations, access to quality healthcare is a huge challenge. The inability of the large percentage of the citizens to access health care is multi factorial. Among these factors is endemic poverty that scares citizens away from seeking healthcare early. Usually, this lead to presentation of patients at the medical facilities mostly when the disease is at an advanced state. In some other countries, the use of Health Insurance has proven to help in addressing some of these challenges. Recently, The Nigerian President signed into law the National Health Insurance Authority Bill to build on the success that has earlier been recorded through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). As young change makers who understand the important role that Health Insurance plays in health care delivery, I alongside other members of my cohort of fellows would be engaging the members of the community, and relevant stakeholders.

Measurable goals
1. Shift in knowledge of Health Insurance (To be assessed through survey) reaching minimum 2,500 people.
2. Increased knowledge base on how to access the National Health Insurance Scheme for University of Ibadan Students. This can be assessed through the number of engagement of our online sensitization posts.
3. Increase Health Insurance enrollment rate among the members of the benefitting community. This can be assessed through the number of people that enrol into the scheme during the awareness programs.
