" I am eternally excited and thankful to be a Millennium Fellow! When I think of this Fellowship I think about my time at my local food pantry. The manager there shared their personal experience on food inaccessibility. They shared this quote: “It takes a village to raise a child and a world to feed the world”. This quote stood out to me as it highlighted the importance of community coming together to help one another which is essential to why I do the work that I do. I look forward to utilizing the resources that the Millennium Fellowship provides as it will enhance my advocacy on social justice and food security. I look forward to doing my part, as a leader and mentor, to promote nutrition education, combat mental health stigmas, and progress towards a world in which no one suffers from malnutrition. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Food Nutrition for all - Pantry Prep

My project was to make a website for University of Michigan Dearborn’s food pantry called Pantry Prep where the focus was on college students who can get food, snacks, hygiene products and even stationery from the pantry..

As college students we see how busy our schedule gets. and it is often difficult for students to find or figure out how to eat healthy. Students might not have certain foods and items in their own home. They might have schedule conflicts preventing them from hitting the grocery store.

Our website works with the UM Dearborn food pantry so students can pick up items at the pantry and incorporate them into their meals at home.

We’re making it to enable students with limited time and or money to keep tabs on what’s in stock in the food pantry, so they can pick items up in between work and classes.

I am passionate about food insecurity and education because I have seen the effect that limited access to food and nutrition education has on physical and mental health. Everyone must have access to fresh food, such as fruits, vegetables, and breads. My project really connected to the SDG #2: Zero Hunger moving towards Ending hunger, achieving food security and improved nutrition while promoting sustainable agriculture.
