Millennium Fellowship Project: The Crystal Foundation

Millions of people around the world suffer from hunger either because of their economic incapability or man-made circumstances. If we are going to alleviate hunger and achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 2 by 2030, we must increase agricultural productivity and sustainable food production. At the forefront of my knowledge of SDG2 is an understanding that every individual has a role to play in efforts towards ending hunger and the sustainability of food systems, because we are all consumers. But while we are in the process of sustaining food systems, what happens to people who are currently suffering from the pangs of hunger? This is where The Crystal Foundation rises up to the task. Increasing agricultural productivity in very poor communities at the bottom of the economic pyramid in selected communities is critical to reducing hunger. It increases food supply which lowers food prices. Poor people will benefit the most because they spend a larger share of their money on food. As a foundation geared towards hunger relief, TCF will take up the responsibility of sensitizing people or individuals the need to go into small scale agricultural production for their consumption and that of their families. TCF will organize a one and one meet up with Individuals and families who are not well to do enough and sensitize them on the need to practice small scale agricultural production and enlighten them on ways to go about whatever line of agricultural practices that might best suit them. A follow up will be done to make sure everything being sensitized about is done and things are in order. You don’t need to have a piece of land before you can grow crops or rear animals. Having a small cage that can contain certain amount of whatever livestock or poultry birds you want is enough. Tyres, plastic or tin containers, plastic bag (nylons) are readily available for you to plant in. These are various ways we can solve the problem of hunger and food scarcity starting from the bottom of the economic pyramid. TCF’s main goal is to help poor individuals and families by sensitizing them and showing them various ways they can solve the problem of hunger in a very reliable way which helps them to save money that would have been used in purchase of foodstuffs at first. Sensitizing people on this will lead to a massive achievement of the SDG 2 (zero hunger).
