ABOUT THE MILLENNIUM FELLOWSHIP - CLASS OF 2022

United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. Over 31,000 young leaders on 2,400+ campuses across 140+ nations applied to join the Class of 2022.  200+ campuses worldwide (just 8%) were selected to host the 3,000+ Millennium Fellows.

" Personal Development has become key in the lives of the young potential leaders of the society. The programs I have designed for the young teaming youths of my campus will go a long way towards aiding them in self realization, self evaluation and personal Development. I'm so confident that the skills I would acquire from the Millennium Fellowship of 2022 would further drive this social impact and would help achieve a more tangible outcome which aligns with the UNAI principle and SDGs. Hence being part of this Fellowship is a great dream that has come true. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Your Health, Your Life (YHYL)

Project name : Your Health, Your Life (YHYL)
Goal : "Eradicating Health Ignorance and Promoting a Healthy Living"

The projected was started the project on the 4th of September with weekly health webinars of about three hours duration each . Each month had it's focus. The month of September was focused on Reproductive Health, October was on Infectious Diseases; November was on Gastrointestinal diseases; December is on Noninfectious Diseases.

As a student in the medical training, my team(students and non fellows) and I invited different health providers, medical students and myself to serve as guest speakers of the webinars.

We had topic like:
1)Low sperm count and Erectile dysfunction in men
2)Vaginal Infection: Effect on the Female reproductive health
3) Contraceptives: Pros and Cons
4) Viral Hepatitis
5) Breast Cancer Awareness
6) Sexually Transmitted Infections
7)Typhoid fever
8) etc

The Rationale behind YHYL:
African have a history of increased mortality in preventable diseases caused by lack of health awareness, poor health services, poor health policies etc. The goal of project addresses increased mortality rate due to lack of health awareness.

Challenges faced:
1) Lack of funds to carry out health research, health screening and other minor health services
2) Fluctuated internet coverage
3) Low data to have zoom meetings

Impacts made:
1) Many of our webinar participants have come to appreciate the root cause of the prevalent diseases endemic in our locality
2) Our webinar participants now live better due to the health advices they have acquired
3) There is proper eradication of health ignorance up to 70%
4) The project have encouraged a healthy living among our participants

Conclusion:

YHYL is an on going project whose goal is to Eradicate Health Ignorance and Promote a healthy living. This goal is achieved by hosting weekly webinars and giving health counseling. YHYL has a target of giving health relieve to affected persons and partnering with other NGOs the over free health services in Africa.

About the Millennium Fellow

Eche Ugochukwu Floyd is a 500Level student of the faculty of Clinical Science in the University of Calabar. He is a remarkable leader that believes in excellence and effective delivery . Currently serving as the Deputy Secretary General of the Student Union Government of University of Calabar, He is interested in raising leaders of admirable integrity - this he intends to do through hosting different learning platform(physical and virtual) that would help educate the young leaders within his campus. He intends to host health talks, sign language Initiative Programs(SLIP), debates and public speaking, Art Painting Competitions, Business seminars etc. Through this means he would properly key into the Sustainable development goals of Education for all, improving health etc.
