" Ideas and first hand experiences births creativity. Without a plaguing issue,there may never be an avenue for thinking, creativity and skills (know-how). Being a part of this Millennium Fellowship will enhance these skills collaboratively. The skills I gain from the Millennium Fellowship will make my social impact on schools and houses in the rural communities with the girl child, more tangible and aligned with the UNAI principles and SDGs. I am excited to be at service, leveling up my competence in putting my visions and creativity to the well being and development of humanity. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: One Pad, One Girl Project
ONE PAD, ONE GIRL project, basically centres on sensitising and admonishing the girl children on the efficient use of the sanitary pad,for better health outcomes. And I focus on how to get at least a pad to a girl child per day in the rural communities where sanitary pads are less accessible.
About the Millennium Fellow
Edikan Okpoiso is a young, vibrant, versatile and a globally competitive student at the university of Nigeria,Nsukka. He was born in Nigeria, resident in Nigeria and currently studying dentistry and dental surgery in the Nigeria's foremost and prestigious universities. Edikan is very passionate about the social inclusion of the girl child and a strong advocate for the health rights and hygiene of the girl child in the remote communities of the country, having lived in these rural and Peri urban areas of the country,he stands to better understand with a first hand approach to the plights of these girls children who are indisposed to adequate sanitary pads and general health education and sanitary awareness. Through his outstanding leadership in sensitising these young girls in the impoverished communities,he plans to do more with this platform and coming from a background of study in the field of medicine and health,he is better equipped with the know how to take this campaign and advocacy to reach even more unreached communities..
