University of Nigeria Enugu | Enugu, Nigeria | Advancing SDG 4 & UNAI 2

" I have always considered professional and academic Fellowships as a platform to obtain the necessary motivation and professional networks to pursue one’s goals and see them to fruition. The Millennium Fellowship is one of the most coveted academic impact Fellowships in the world, as it draws on individuals from various university campuses, countries and continents, with the goal of initiating and sustaining student-led social impact projects.
This Fellowship will enable me to be part of the global network of change-makers driving value creation in their student communities, and will also grant me access to seasoned mentors whom I can get advice and guidance from to scale and sustain the impact of my project. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Biomedical Students Mentorship and Research Society (BIOSMERS)
The Biomedical Students Mentorship and Research Society (BIOSMERS) is an academic society being set up to improve the standard of Biomedical education and create a culture of research and innovation among Medical Laboratory Science students in the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC). The central goal of this project is to ensure the production of skilled Biomedical Scientists by improving three core areas:
- Student academic performance
- Clinical field experience
- Knowledge of scientific research
Through this academic society, I intend to reduce failure rates and help students struggling academically in my department by organising regular academic tutorial sessions.
Also, there is a need for Biomedical Science students to have practical experience in the clinical diagnosis of diseases and patient healthcare, thus, this can be done by organising community health programmes outside our university campus to provide rapid diagnostic services to surrounding local communities, which will improve the clinical field experience of the students and give them first-hand exposure to direct patient interaction.
I also intend to equip the students with skills in scientific research writing and publication, to enable them investigate new trends in healthcare and report their findings through research publications in peer-reviewed journals.
